As a recruiter, you’ve got to talk to people. Yes, there are tons of job boards out there. But to do business, you’ve got to pick up the phone.
You know, sometimes when people find out that you are not a “9 to 5” person, they get a little jealous. After all, how can this guy sit at home in shorts and a t-shirt and make a nice living, while I’m sitting here in traffic on my way to a job that I hate…..
That’s part of it folks. In today’s society we are pre-programmed to go to college, get a degree, so we can get a job.
The good news is……You don’t have to be that way!! I’m getting ready to begin my 14th year of working at home. Anyone can do it, you just need to take that step.
There’s an old saying in the sales world, that “People buy from people they like”. Now, I didn’t come up with that, but it is so true. It’s your personality that people pick up on, and in the world of recruiting, it’s the same thing. I tell candidates that probably 70% of the interview is about chemistry. In other words, your personality meshing with the interviewer.
So, when you are prepping your candidates for the interview, remind them of that.
In the meantime, KEEP DIALING!
Well, we just finished making the move to NC. The past few weeks have been some of the toughest I’ve had in years.
From dealing with an idiot contractor to getting the kids into a new school, it seems nothing has been easy. But, I’m still here…..
It’s been quite some time since I’ve updated my status. Well, that’s because summer is upon us.
After the family and I went to Europe for 2 weeks, we came back and started our move to North Carolina. So, I have just gotten around to doing some work with RFH. For all of those who have contacted me, please accept my apologies for being such a slacker!
Just finding the right candidate is only half the battle. You need to prep the candidate thoroughly for what they are about to experience in the interview process. If you are just finding resumes, throwing them at the wall to see if one sticks, then you are bringing much value to your client.
So, it’s Friday morning and I am sitting in the local Chick-Fil-A, enjoying their free Wi-Fi, and enjoying their coffee (yes, I know it’s not as cool as sitting in Starbucks).
And I started thinking how great it was that I could work from here. I recently bought a MacBook Air (which I love) and a few times in the past week, I’ve left the corporate headquarters (my basement) and have gone out to wherever I might find free Wi-fi. And I have to say, I really enjoy it.
I have all my phones directed through GoogleVoice, so I can plug in a headset and not miss a beat! You have got to love technology!!
Actually, you have got to love being a recruiter with today’s technology. Where you can “Eat Mor Chikin” and make a living at the same time.
Well, you can probably tell by the date, that this is the first post I’ve made in a long time. I know, I know, I’m a slacker!
Actually, from October through December, I was slammed! It was great. I’m finally starting to catch up. I really appreciate all of the holiday greetings.
I promise I will try and do better to keep up with this blog.
By the way, we are working on something new. Please keep checking back.
Good luck in 2012!
Well, as you can see, it’s been a couple of months since I’ve posted. That is because I have been slammed! It is truly a great year for recruiting.Since this sight is my part-time gig, I haven’t been able to do a lot of posting. And yes, I read all of your comments. But to answer a lot of you, if you want one-on-one coaching, you need to sign up for it. I really don’t like to do it during daytime hours because that is when I’m actively recruiting. It’s just like I’ve told many of you before…….Yes, I am an active recruiter and have been since 1997.
Anyway, I am posting a picture from my recent vacation with my family. We left 6/17 and just got back the other day. My wife and I took the kids to Europe for the first time and it was great. I bought an Ipad before I left and was actually able to do quite a bit of work while I was gone. It was great, actually I made a placement while I was gone. Talk about a “virtual office”……….
Well, if you have been waiting to get in the recruiting game, wait no more. You need to wake up and get your butt in gear.
If you pay attention to the economy, you would have noticed by now, that we are on an upward swing. Which is great news. I literally have more jobs on my desk than I know what to do with.
Don’t wait until we hit the peak. It’s like buying a stock…..you want to buy it on it’s way up, not when it has reached the top.
